Urban risk and resources

Hauraki Gulf

  • Waitemata Harbour - Hauraki Gulf - Firth of Thames. We have combined seismic reflection surveying techniques, with swath bathymetry data collected by the RNZN. This data is used to map volcanic flow deposits, faults (active and historic) and investigate relationships between these features and volcanic vents and basement faults.

Wellington Harbour

  • Wellington Fault and faulting near the Somes Island basement block. Sediment thickness estimates within the Wellington Harbour basin are important for modelling earthquake propagation/shaking models in the region.
  • Hutt Aquifer as it surfaces and escapes within the harbour - important information for water resource models and harbour seafloor usage planning.
