The GNS Science geomicrobiology team has built a microbial culture collection of over 1500 extremophile strains from New Zealand’s unique geothermal and hydrothermal environments.
Our microbial collection is being screened for bioactives, and we are exploring diverse commercial opportunities.
As well as characterising selected strains, our collection continues to grow through ongoing biodiscovery.

We have isolated a large number of novel microbial isolates, many of which represent new species, genera or even phyla.
