The quarter million mapping (QMAP) programme is the national 1:250 000 digital geological mapping project, created using GIS. These digital QMAPs (Geological Maps at 1:250,000) are available for free as zip files for download.
Overview
They contain a medium resolution JPEG format image of the geological map, a world file for georeferencing purposes in GIS software and a Readme file that outlines conditions of use.
Digital QMAPs are available for the following areas and regions: Aoraki, Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, Fiordland, Greymouth, Haast, Hawke's Bay, Kaikoura, Kaitaia, Murihiku, Nelson, Raukumara, Rotorua, Taranaki, Waikato, Wairarapa, Waitaki, Wakatipu, Wellington, and Whangarei.
