PBE is home to interactive webmaps for exploring New Zealand's exploration efforts and petroleum systems. Use spatial and text searches to explore through layers of geoscience data.

Overview

Reports and scientific studies can be found under the Technical Studies Menu. You can also learn more about the New Zealand sub-continent through the NZ Overview, Petroleum Basins and Exploration History menus.

PBE is part of the Petroleum Exploration Geoscience Initiative (PEGI; co-funded with New Zealand Petroleum & Minerals). Our research and PEGI outputs can be found under Technical Studies.

Phil Scadden Senior Scientist

Phil is programmer/modelling/database specialist in the Geospatial Data and Analysis team. He is architect of the jsMapservice system underlying GNS webmap delivery for sites like TEZ and ATA_GEOMAP; programs the BM1D thermal basin modelling software and also looks after a no. of GNS data resources including the Borehole database and the Petroleum Systems database. He has wide-ranging interests in data science, geophysics (especially thermal systems) and basin modelling.
