Celebrating New Zealand's biggest hydrogen event
New Zealand Hydrogen Symposium 2024 was the largest event ever to showcase global hydrogen research in Aotearoa.
We look forward to seeing you again at the next New Zealand Hydrogen Symposium to be held in Christchurch, February 2025.
Catalyst of collaboration
From January 31st to February 2nd 2024, we hosted the second New Zealand Hydrogen Symposium at the Oceania Events Centre at Te Papa in Wellington.
This international research symposium brought together over 200 delegates from around the world, with half of the presenters being international leaders in hydrogen research and industry.
The symposium covered various themes across the energy system, including the production, storage, distribution, and utilization of green hydrogen, along with whole-of-system considerations and the techno- and socio-economic effects of the emerging hydrogen economy.
Focusing research where the industry and commercial sector need it most
One of the key highlights of the symposium was a dedicated discussion panel with key industry and commercialisation leaders.
The session featured speakers from USA's PlugPower(external link)(external link) and CleanTech(external link)(external link), Liquium (New Zealand)(external link)(external link), NZ Growth Capital(external link)(external link), Hyundai NZ(external link)(external link), Fabrum(external link)(external link), Mitsui(external link)(external link), Hiringa(external link)(external link), and GNS Science's first spin-out company focused on improving catalytic membranes, Bspkl.(external link)
Packed with plenaries and posters
Attendees were treated to a programme packed with plenary and invited speakers from across the globe including Director General, Mr Ohira Eiji (NEDO) sharing the "Hydrogen perspective in Japan", Dr Patrick Hartley (CSIRO) outlining "Australia's hydrogen industry journey" and Dr Brandon Wood's "Overview of the U.S. hydrogen production and storage consortia".
On Day 2 of the symposium, attendees gathered to learn more about cutting-edge research with over 70 posters presented by organisations across the topics of production, storage and utilisation. In the evening, attendees got an update on COP28 from Tina Schirr, Executive Director of the BusinessNZ Energy Council.
